That is a FREAKIN long swim! Did your arms fall off?

Hey Missy, I took my kids to the pool on Saturday and I thought about you as I did my one lap in the pool :) It almost KILLED me, so I spent the rest of the time in the hot tub. In fairness to me, I had run 7 miles earlier in the day, but still. How do you do it?

From missy on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 16:34:54 from 75.162.122.26

That swim was actually decent, TB. The one I did today has made me really tired! Lol..That and only 5 hours sleep. Let's see what Friday was...OH! This was NOT my favorite swim..lol:

200 Pull

200 Kick

5x100 Kick :30 rest in between

1x500 Build (last 100 hard)

5x100 Pull :20 rest in between

1x500 Build (faster than last time)

5x100 All out :30 rest

100yd warmdown

All the kicking was annoying.

Scott: Well..my coach says most runners try to power their way through the water. Swimming is about using the least amount of effort possible. Speed comes from technique or form in the water. I used to "power" my way through the water, my coach nipped that in the bud..lol. :)

Scott: I have been thinking for a few days how lame my answer to your question was....There could be many reasons why your lap felt so bad. First, it feels bad to everyone the first while...Just like when you ran for the first time. Most likely since you are fit..your issue isn't about fitness it is probably your breathing style in the water. As you swim more your breathing becomes relaxed and rhythmic like when you run. There are many other factors as well..But you will find the more you swim it will become easier. I could write a 10 page essay on this..lol. Hope this helps Scott.
