Sounds like an awesome day Missy! Great training! So why do they call it a brick workout?

From missy on Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 12:24:44 from 65.100.213.241

V~

Well....I just looked up some info on "Brick Workouts" since I don't know exactly what it means, I just took for granted what I thought it meant..haha.

So. Quoting:

"Simply put, a brick workout is a term used to define training in back to back events. This could describe a variety of events, but for the purposes of Triathlon Prep I would define it as a swim, bike, or run workout immediately following a base workout. For example, a 20k bike after a 1600m swim would be a brick workout. Same thing for a 10k run after a 20k bike. You could even do a 5k run followed by a 600m swim."

He then goes on to explain that Brick workouts are used to simulate race conditions.

Pretty simple..

You can imagine that running 3 miles off the bike is different than running 3 miles cold...So that is why we do it. :D

Yep that is a brick workout. And I like to do the ones that are from the bike to run. To help you know what your legs are going to be like after the bike ride. JELL-O legs was quite a shocker to me in my first dual. It was quite a shock to me.

Missy! Thanks for the info! =) I kinda already knew what a brick workout was, just wondered why they called it that. Now a Missy brick workout is on a whole different level =P Can't wait to hear about your race this weekend!

I had no idea. Thanks.

Vinh...Yeah, I guess they could have called it Blocks Workouts..haha. Or Stack Workouts..Maybe they chose Brick, because Bricks are hard..haha.

YW Burt. :D

Huans. Just raced a reverse order Tri Today. Swim last was not fun. If I ever do a reverse order, (Probably will do a reverse in Nov.) I will practice Run Swim or Bike Swim. Tho IDK....sounds annoying. I will just mentally prepare, yeah. :)
